Yiwen Zhang's reimagined "Hand over Hand" brand identity, developed in New York from July to September 2023, has earned the prestigious Bronze A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award for 2024, recognizing its innovative approach to inclusivity, diversity, and educational empowerment in the special education sector.

Hand over Hand Brand Identity Redefines Inclusive Education Visuals and Messaging

Yiwen Zhang's "Hand over Hand" project stands out as a pioneering brand identity redesign for a leader in special education services. The project preserves the original hand-drawn hand and book elements, infusing the brand with warmth, personality, and a sense of positivity. By integrating the modern Analogue font with hand-drawn features and geometric shapes, Zhang creates a harmonious visual language that reflects both the brand's approachable character and its commitment to embracing regional and demographic diversity.

Executed using Adobe Creative Suite and Figma, the brand identity was rolled out across digital and print platforms, including social media campaigns, websites, eBooks, out-of-home advertising, magazines, packaging, and business cards. The design process was rooted in comprehensive research, analyzing competitor brands and identifying unique strengths and challenges within the education industry. This strategic approach ensured that the new visual identity not only addressed marketing consistency but also resonated emotionally with a broad audience, including children, families, and communities.

One of the most significant challenges tackled by the project was maintaining appeal across diverse demographics and geographies, particularly for individuals with disabilities. Zhang's solution was to build a passionate, vibrant, inclusive, and fun brand image that embodies the core message: everyone, everywhere can learn.
