FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Zona Yuechen Guan's "Discussing Time" is a unique collective book design project that delves into the concept of time through interdisciplinary design, sculpture, and bookbinding. The project commenced in February 2020 in New York and concluded in April 2020, earning the silver award of Graphis New Talent 2021 in New York.
The project features a group discussion on the theme of "time," with Zona Yuechen Guan assuming various roles, including artist, concept creator, photographer, videographer, and bookbinder. The collective book showcases a sculpture of time created by the designer, incorporating illuminated manuscript-style book design with a modern twist in its photography.
Utilizing ice as the primary material, Zona Yuechen Guan crafted a sculpture symbolizing the passage of time, with the book itself measuring 7x12 inches. The project involved extensive research on sixteenth-century book design, typography, and book printing, culminating in a collective book of thoughts and discussions on "time" and sculpture works that transcend time.
The project posed several creative and technical challenges, particularly in gathering diverse perspectives on "time" and translating them into typographic sculpture. Zona Yuechen Guan's dedication to combining ancient design elements with modern technology resulted in a thought-provoking exploration of the concept of time.
Zona Yuechen Guan, also known as Zona, is an interdisciplinary designer and photographer with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Design from the School of Visual Arts (SVA). Currently pursuing a Master of Professional Studies in Digital Photography at SVA, Zona's work reflects a passion for collaboration across different fields and techniques, aiming to transform innovative ideas into reality.
