Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen introduces "School Simulator," an app designed to provide preschool training for children with autism spectrum disorder. The app aims to support parents, teachers, and therapists in training autistic children for inclusive education, offering unique features such as self-care, instruction understanding, interpersonal interaction, and a day in school training modules. The project, which started in October 2021 and finished in January 2022 in Shenzhen, has been awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2022 for its outstanding contribution to education and training content design.
The app was inspired by the special needs of autistic children in inclusive education, aiming to help them integrate into inclusive classes. It offers a platform for preschool training and community communication, allowing parents, teachers, and therapists to share experiences and communicate effectively. The app utilizes speech recognition and facial expression recognition algorithms to provide quick and accurate feedback to children's responses during training lessons, ensuring an engaging and effective learning experience.
Designers at Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen conducted extensive research, including desk research, field studies, focus group interviews, and consumer journey mapping, to understand the needs of autistic children and develop effective training modules. The app, designed for the iOS system, incorporates interface design, autism spectrum disorder, speech and gesture recognition, and pre-school training to create a comprehensive and innovative solution for autistic preschool training.
The app addresses the challenges of integrating various training needs and designing engaging lessons for young children with autism. It offers a variety of content and intensity to cater to different needs, while ensuring that the lessons are succinct, interesting, and interactive to enhance training effectiveness. The School Simulator app is a groundbreaking solution that aims to improve the quality of life for autistic children and make the world a better place.
