An Avant-Garde Installation Reflecting on Excessive Consumption and Social Issues
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Derya Geylani VuruÅan's "Hunger Games" installation is a thought-provoking art project inspired by the societal problems of excessive consumption, food waste, thirst, and hunger. The project features avant-garde porcelain plates, glasses, and metal cutlery from various countries, suspended from the ceiling, creating a visually striking display. The installation aims to shed light on the changing world order and lost world resources, emphasizing the need for conscious consumption and addressing social issues.
The installation, exhibited at Design Week Turkey in Istanbul, interacted with different sectors, opening doors to new projects. It was a collaborative effort, involving hot glass blowing artist Egemen Kemal Vurusan, and was later reinterpreted for the porcelain brand Porland, becoming part of their art collection.
Challenges in the project included the meticulous hanging of 250 separate pieces, each contributing to the overall storytelling and concept of the installation. Despite these challenges, the "Hunger Games" installation successfully conveyed its message, earning Derya Geylani VuruÅan the Bronze A' Design Award in 2021 for Fine Arts and Art Installation Design.
