Exploring the Relationship Between Stand-Up Comedy and Collective Identities

Danyang Ma's "Strange" is a captivating poster series designed for a departmental exhibition at Pratt Institute in 2019. The project delves into the relationship between the humorous situations in stand-up comedy and the diverse perspectives of audiences. Through a unique visual style inspired by the XYZ axis mathematical concept, "Strange" aims to provoke intersectional perspectives and social changes driven by shifts in collaboration.

The poster series is based on quantitative and qualitative research, aiming to shed light on how violations are perceived differently among collective identities. By leveraging a diagram visual style, the project sparks discussions on the varied interpretations of violations, time, and emotion within stand-up comedy.

Recipient of the Bronze A' Design Award in 2020, "Strange" stands out for its creatively ingenious design that authenticates experience and resourcefulness. The series measures 279mm x 431mm and is designed to prompt viewers to contemplate the complexities of violations and collective identities in a visually compelling manner.
