Seoul, South Korea - February 2022 - Sejong Center for the Performing Arts presents a groundbreaking rebranding initiative, departing from traditional Korean public institution logos, with a focus on King Sejong's philosophical logic and the innovative use of Hangul.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul, South Korea, has unveiled a new identity renewal that breaks away from the traditional logo designs of Korean public institutions. The rebranding initiative draws inspiration from King Sejong's philosophical logic and the innovative use of Hangul, the Korean alphabet, to create a bold and unique visual identity.
The new branding represents a fusion of old and contemporary elements, with Hangul serving as a symbol and the use of Hangul as a logo representing a daring departure from the norm in South Korea. The design aims to appeal to the younger generation while honoring the institution's rich heritage.
The rebranding project, which commenced in March 2021 and concluded in August 2021, encompasses various elements such as customized typefaces, costumes, a fairy tale book, and more. The project was officially unveiled in February 2022 at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, South Korea.
This innovative rebranding effort not only sets a new standard for the branding of Korean public institutions but also aims to promote the unique cultural offerings of Korean concert halls to a global audience. The project represents a significant departure from the passive branding typically associated with public institutions, offering a fresh and proactive approach to engaging with the public.
Despite the challenges associated with designing logos using Hangul and the traditional market dynamics for public institutions in Korea, the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts has successfully achieved a remarkable and exemplary result, setting a new precedent in the industry.
The new identity renewal has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category in 2023, highlighting its outstanding creativity, technical excellence, and innovation.
