Hasong Lee creates a groundbreaking anamorphic trophy for French photographer Georges Rousse, using metalworking techniques to produce a unique visual illusion.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Renowned designer Hasong Lee has unveiled a remarkable anamorphic trophy designed for French photographer Georges Rousse. The trophy, standing at 115mm x 137mm x 154mm, is a three-dimensional impossibility that showcases the intended form and image at a specific point. Lee's use of anamorphosis creates a visual illusion, distorting the appearance of the object from a normal point of view, only to reveal its true form from a specific angle.
Using computer 3D programs, Lee crafted the form from cupro-nickel and 925 silver, cutting the metal plates and employing folding and soldering techniques to achieve the desired shape. The finished work presents a stark contrast between black and white, allowing the intended form or surface to be clearly visible from a specific viewpoint.
Lee's trophy, which was exhibited at the Gold Museum in New Taipei, Taiwan, and her school gallery, challenges the traditional concept of trophies, symbolizing Rousse's work and stories through its unique design. The anamorphic nature of the trophy creates a sense of visual confusion, drawing viewers in and prompting them to question their perceptions.
