UPDesign presents the OCT Happy Hour wayfinding signs, drawing inspiration from Corbusier's modernist architectural style. The project, located in the Northwest Lishui District of Nanjing City, China, aims to transform a large park-themed residence into a local culture center after residential deliveries. The wayfinding signs are designed to extract Corbusier's architectural language and make it easily accessible in a vivid way throughout the landscape and entrance paths.
The unique properties of the wayfinding signs lie in the bold, rough appearance, featuring exaggerated crude concrete components and exposed unfinished structures. The design creates a 3D space experience with cool shadows of heavy metal materials, conveying a powerful sense of minimalism.
Embraced by a grand architectural setting, the wayfinding signs require fine details for close viewing. The concrete sign boards are boldly shaped to showcase distinct architectural aesthetics, achieved through high-standard cement material and qualified finishing craft.
Overall texture of the signs is achieved through a concrete coating, with dimensions of 1700mmX200mmX680mm. The project was completed in September 2021 in the Northwest Lishui District of Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province, China.
UPDesign's meticulous wayfinding signage system harmoniously integrates man, architectural space, and design aesthetics to create a permanently impressive park for visitors. The design team overcame challenges in maintaining consistent visual effects between the colors of the sign boards and existing building facades, emphasizing minimal color tolerance in the cement material samples.
As the founder and leader of UPDesign, Zhang Yi has seen the rapid development of environmental vision and signage design throughout China and the world. UPDesign has achieved an aesthetic presentation of spatial experience, quickly rising to the top in the field and attracting outstanding Chinese clients with user-experience thinking and international vision.
