FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Anima Code: Personal Seal Stamp for Digital Inheritance

TAKUMA YAMAZAKI introduces Anima Code, a revolutionary personal seal stamp designed to address the issue of digital inheritance in the age of social media. With the rise of online presence, the project aims to provide a tangible solution for preserving and accessing digital archives after an individual's passing. The stamp features an engraved QR code that serves as a key to the person's online data, allowing loved ones to access their digital presence posthumously.

Anima Code is a Hanko (Japanese personal seal) with a unique engraved QR code that contains access to a person's online digital data. The stamp allows the bereaved to access the digital archives of the deceased by scanning the code. This innovative approach bridges the physical and digital worlds, offering a secure and intimate method for digital inheritance.

The stamp is crafted using acrylic, chosen for its weather resistance and processability. The engraved QR code is highly precise and can be read by a camera at 10mm square. The product also includes a packaging made of paulownia wood, known for its airtight properties and historically used for the preservation of valuable objects, symbolizing the concept of "inheritance."

Users can register their social media accounts with the product through a dedicated service before their passing. The stamp is then produced with an imprinted QR code, serving as an access key to the online services. This thoughtful design process ensures that the digital presence of an individual can be preserved and accessed by their loved ones.

TAKUMA YAMAZAKI began the Anima Code project in Japan in 2019, with an official launch planned for 2021. The design was inspired by the need to address the issues of digital inheritance and the shortage of land for traditional cemeteries. By harmonizing data and physicality, Anima Code offers an alternative solution to these modern challenges.

Recognizing the unique challenges of bridging the real and digital worlds, the designer has carefully balanced the function of the stamp with its symbolic and emotional significance. Anima Code has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in 2021, highlighting its innovative and creative approach to addressing contemporary societal issues.
