FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STUDIO 33 proudly presents Oink, a packaging design that pays homage to the tradition of breeding black pigs and the production of traditional homemade black pig products. The name "Oink" cleverly incorporates the word "Ink," symbolizing the blackness of the pig, while also evoking the onomatopoeic sound associated with pigs.
The packaging design showcases the unique approach to breeding black pigs and the top-notch quality of the products. The linocut illustrations, executed with a distinctive handwork approach, vividly portray a range of products and directly evoke their flavors and textures.
Utilizing the linocut technique, the illustrations were scanned and traced in Adobe Illustrator before being applied to different paper tube and box packaging. The background features a pig skin illustration, while the rest of the packaging showcases illustrations of the black pig and various products such as bacon, sausages, and the special salami named kulen.
The Oink packaging comes in two variations: tube packaging measuring 60 mm x 60 mm x 560 mm and 130 mm x 60 mm x 360 mm, as well as box packaging sized at 195 mm x 140 mm x 110 mm.
Leo Vinkovic, the designer and art director, led the creative team, which also included illustrator Maja Gjajic, copywriter Tonci Klaric, and photographer Marija Gasparovic. The project, which commenced in April 2019 and concluded in October 2019 in Osijek, Croatia, aimed to transform packaging and labeling challenges into benefits, simplifying production and reducing costs.
The Oink packaging design has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2021, highlighting its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable artistic skill. This award-winning design showcases a remarkable level of excellence and introduces positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
