An Online Exhibition Showcasing the Rare Stories of Thai Old-Style Street Peddlers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Roi Re: Online Exhibition Showcasing Thai Street Peddler Stories

A new online exhibition, "Roi Re," is bringing to light the disappearing stories of Thai old-style street peddlers, aiming to create appreciation and awareness among younger generations towards Thai culture. The exhibition utilizes a unique series of illustrations to provide information, knowledge, and tools, allowing audiences to explore the history of these rare street vending activities.

The "Roi Re" online exhibition website features a series of animated illustrations that mimic the environment of street peddlers in the past. Through the use of on-location Augmented Reality (AR) in pop-up kiosks, visitors can explore the hidden stories of street peddlers at historical locations, such as Charoen Krung Road.

The project, initiated in September 2019, culminated in an exhibition showcase at Siam Center (Bangkok) on 20-22 November 2020. The aim of the project was to preserve and create an appreciation of Thai old-style street peddlers among the younger generation, using technology and innovative design to bring their stories back to life.

Poovakorn Watcharaphongphiphat, the designer behind "Roi Re," hails from Mueang Samut Sakhon, Thailand. The project was recognized with the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2022, acknowledging its well-designed, practical, and innovative approach in preserving the cultural heritage of Thai street peddlers.
