Nitin Gurram Introduces Foxpat, a Revolutionary Surgical Training Simulator

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Nitin Gurram's Foxpat: A Reusable Training Simulator for Knee Replacement Surgery

Nitin Gurram introduces Foxpat, a groundbreaking reusable surgical trainer designed to revolutionize the training process for knee replacement surgery. Unlike existing digital simulators, Foxpat offers a physical simulation of a patient's knee integrated with sensors to provide real-time feedback on surgical performance. This innovative training platform aims to enhance the learning experience for novice surgeons, allowing them to practice independently and gain essential skills without risking patient safety.

Foxpat is a unique and ergonomic solution that addresses the need for an effective learning platform in surgical training. It is designed to facilitate the development of proficiency in knee replacement surgery, enabling surgeons to make mistakes without compromising patient safety. The simulator incorporates all four stages of Kolb's experiential learning cycle, providing a comprehensive and immersive training experience.

The product is constructed using advanced materials such as polyurethane (PU) bones, 3D scanned knee anatomy, an aluminum structural frame, and a wireless surgical mallet. With a focus on realism and practicality, Foxpat allows surgeons to use actual tools employed in the operating room, promoting a hands-on approach to skill development.

Measuring 900mm in width, 600mm in depth, and 400mm in height, Foxpat offers a compact yet comprehensive training solution for knee replacement surgery. Its low production volume of 50 pieces per year enables the use of high-quality materials and precision manufacturing techniques, including CNC milling for plastic and aluminum parts.

Nitin Gurram's Foxpat project commenced in March 2019 in Delft, The Netherlands, and concluded in August 2019. The innovative surgical trainer was showcased at the Innovation for Health - Design Expo in Rotterdam in February 2020, garnering attention for its potential to transform surgical training practices.

As an innovator with a background in both Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design, Nitin Gurram has demonstrated a commitment to developing meaningful products that enhance the health and lifestyle of individuals. His user-centered design approach and expertise in the Delft Design methods have contributed to the creation of Foxpat, a Silver A' Design Award-winning solution that exemplifies outstanding innovation and technical excellence in surgical training.
