An Artistic Representation of the Convergence of Tides and Streams in Guangzhou
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Inspired by the unique phenomenon of the Pearl River tides, "Tide and Stream" is a captivating artistic installation created by Huifeng Lin and the design team at BSA DESIGN. The installation symbolizes the convergence of tides and streams in Guangzhou, with the upper transparent part representing "tide" and the lower metal part representing "stream." The design incorporates elements of Cantonese culture and aims to showcase the inclusiveness of Guangzhou.
The upper transparent part of the installation represents "tide," signifying the influx of external influences into Guangzhou. It features colorful and dazzling elements that appeal to the younger generation. On the other hand, the lower metal part represents "stream," symbolizing the indigenous strength and richness of inland culture. It showcases characters embodying Cantonese culture and the life attitude of Guangzhou people in the form of movable type plates.
Constructed using champaign gold stainless steel, transparent acrylic, and silkscreen stainless steel, "Tide and Stream" measures 800mm in width, 800mm in depth, and 350mm in height. The design team utilized digital design methods for 3D modeling and conducted structural and incident light calculations to ensure the installation's integrity.
The project, which commenced in October 2019 and concluded in December 2019 in Guangzhou, serves as a thought-provoking representation of the convergence of cultures in the city. Through its exquisite appearance, the installation aims to attract contemporary art enthusiasts and spark a reflection on traditional local culture, thereby promoting greater awareness of Guangzhou's unique inclusiveness and its role in cultural exchange and integration.
