Poetic Pour Over Coffee Measuring Equipment Transforms the Ritual of Coffee Making

Renowned industrial designer Forn Woei Koong unveils "Smell the Flower," a captivating set of thermometer and scale that reimagines the pour over coffee experience. Inspired by the elegance of Japanese tea ceremony and flower arrangement, this collection infuses a strong sense of ritual and aesthetic feeling into the act of making coffee.

"Smell the Flower" introduces a unique approach to pour over coffee, transforming the mundane task of measuring coffee beans into a poetic ritual. The set includes a thermometer designed in the shape of a flower, where the rotation angle of the blooming petals indicates the water temperature, and a scale that mimics the art of flower arranging, offering a delightful and sensorial coffee-making experience.

Each piece in the collection is meticulously crafted using a blend of traditional and modern techniques, such as hand-worn ceramic material, red copper with spin forging, and laser-cut aluminum, resulting in a truly unique and visually stunning design.

This innovative project, which began in November 2019 and concluded in August 2020 in Taiwan Taipei, has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award for Fine Arts and Art Installation Design in 2022, celebrating its exceptional creativity and contribution to enhancing the quality of life through art, science, and technology.

Forn Woei Koong, a visionary designer from Taiwan, is known for his passion for infusing the sense of ritual and aesthetic appreciation into everyday products. With "Smell the Flower," Koong continues to enrich the product using experience, elevating the sensory stimulation of aesthetic and sublimating the sense of ritual through the power of product design.
