Daisuke Kobayashi's Brand Identity Redesign for Kairi Murakami, Inspired by Iki Island, Wins Bronze A' Design Award
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Daisuke Kobayashi's brand identity redesign for Kairi Murakami, inspired by the splendor of Iki Island, has been honored with the Bronze A' Design Award in 2021. The project, which commenced in July 2019 and concluded in March 2020 in Nagasaki, Japan, aimed to create a second home for customers through a powerful and memorable brand landscape.
The design draws inspiration from the eternal history, natural seafood, and golden hot springs of Iki Island, once known as "Ikikoku." Kobayashi's kanji design for "Ichi" symbolizes the first impression of the hotel, capturing the essence of the welcoming scenery overlooking Yunomoto Bay.
Utilizing straight lines and circles, the logo embodies the picturesque landscape, while the color scheme reflects the evening sunset. The project involved the creation of various elements such as hall signs, business cards, and letterhead, all derived from the logo.
About Daisuke Kobayashi:
Find unique cutting in âwhyâ. There are many different ways of thinking about design, but we try to come up with a clear, fresh, and memorable design from an unorganized state. Before designing, I start by recognizing the true state of the product or service and exploring the âwhyâ in the client. By exploring the unique perspectives of âwhyâ with our clients and considering every aspect of the design process, I create brands, packages, and other creative things that are fresh to my customers. And I am constantly evolving and adapting to explore new perspectives. Sukedachi Design was established in Fukuoka in 2013 with the philosophy of âhelping people in need of design.â Currently, I am mainly active in graphic design, specializing in product and company branding, identity, and art direction. (âSukedachiâ means to use your own sword to help another samurai in revenge or rivalry situations during the time when samurai were active in Japan.) If you really need a design, I will be on the clientâs side and help them in design, like a samurai who helps someone as a âSukedachiâ.
