Basem El Koury's Master's Thesis Unveils a Unique VR 3D Simulation of Castle "Oberkapfenberg" in a Bound Book

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Infocastle: A Master's Thesis Unveiling a VR 3D Simulation

Basem El Koury presents "Infocastle," a groundbreaking VR 3D simulation of the Renaissance-era castle "Oberkapfenberg" in Austria, encapsulated within a meticulously designed thesis book. The project, initiated in September 2017 and completed in May 2019 in Graz, Austria, showcases the fusion of digital preservation and Virtual Reality (VR) to bring historical and natural heritages to life.

The thesis book, a 200 mm x 25 mm x 200 mm printed book with a 206 mm x 36 mm x 211 wooden slipcase, serves as a tangible representation of the VR simulation. Crafted with materials reflecting the project's concept, the book's cover features a hologram of the 3D castle, offering readers a glimpse into the castle's original state during the Renaissance.

Upon interaction, the book reveals a fine balance between nature and technology, as the hologram of the castle becomes visible when held to a light source. By rotating the book, readers can explore the castle from various perspectives, highlighting the seamless integration of historical elements with modern technology.

Elaborating on the challenges faced during the project, Basem El Koury mentions the extensive research and technical learning involved in creating the 3D simulation using tools like Blender and Unity3d. The meticulous collection of historical information and the procurement of specific wood and hologram further underscore the dedication and innovation behind the project.

Basem El Koury, a passionate graphic designer from Kapfenberg, Austria, has been recognized for his exceptional work, receiving the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2020 for "Infocastle." His commitment to integrating industry best practices and technical innovation has resulted in a design that not only meets professional and industrial requirements but also contributes to a better world through its immersive storytelling and preservation of cultural heritage.
