Expressing the Beauty of a Swan Using Parametric Design Approach

Award-winning designer Kirin Leung, founder of kirin+labs ltd, has unveiled "The Swan," a stunning stainless steel sculpture at the Solaris Clubhouse in Hong Kong. The sculpture, standing at 2800mmx2800mm, mimics the organic movement of a swan stretching its wings over the water, using a parametric design approach to create a dynamic form with varying shapes on a 360-degree scale. The engraved lines on the sculpture highlight its fluidity, making it a masterpiece within the landscape of the clubhouse.

The artwork expresses the movement of a swan on water, showcasing a three-dimensional form of dynamic beauty. Utilizing 3D fabrication technology, the sculpture creates fluid massing using stainless steel material. The compliment of reflections from water and the polished metal surface enhances the sculpture's beauty, making it stand out as a unique and captivating installation art sculpture.

Commissioned by K. Wah Group, "The Swan" is located at the Solaris Clubhouse in Hong Kong. The project presented several challenges, particularly in the structural design and fabrication process. The inclined sculpture form required careful calculation to minimize the depth of the foundation while ensuring stability. Additionally, the fabrication process involved unfolding individual radial building pieces from the ring into a flat surface for laser cutting, followed by meticulous hand welding and polishing to achieve the mirror finish.

Kirin Leung, an architectural designer and multimedia art artist, founded kirin+labs ltd in 2010 as a multidisciplinary design studio with a focus on architecture, interior design, and mixed media art. Leung's innovative approach to design has earned him numerous accolades, including the Red Dot Design Award, Asia Design Prize, and the A' Design Award. "The Swan" adds to his impressive portfolio, showcasing his ability to create captivating and dynamic art installations that push the boundaries of traditional design.
