Rana Galal redefines the Cairo Citadel's visual identity, capturing the contrast within its atmosphere and culture in a fresh, modern way.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Rana Galal's reimagining of the Cairo Citadel's visual identity encapsulates 700 years of history in a modern, bilingual logo mark. The design reflects the contrast within the citadel's atmosphere and culture, utilizing black and white as primary colors to symbolize the City Of Contrast. The secondary color, inspired by historical events, adds depth to the brand's visual language. The experimental sign system further enhances the concept, creating a unique and immersive experience for visitors.
Galal's meticulous research process involved extensive exploration of Egyptian culture and local citizens, resulting in a brand identity, logo design, and signage system that seamlessly blend heritage with modernity. The logo's 2:5 square ratio and the use of Helvetica New as the main typeface ensure consistency and harmony, while the design's unique block form represents the changes occurring within the culture and place in an abstract yet impactful manner.
The Cairo Citadel's new corporate identity not only pays homage to its rich history but also offers a fresh perspective for visitors, inviting them to experience the iconic site in a new light. Galal's innovative approach has garnered recognition, with the design receiving the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2021 for its practicality, innovation, and industry best practices.
