"404 Not Found" Graphic Design

Juwon Kim's "404 Not Found" graphic design, showcased at Eco Expo Korea in 2019, delves into the concept of food desertification and artificial plant selection. The design features multiple pixel layers that depict the disappearance and transformation of plant images, symbolizing the impact of industrialization and processed food on the original concept of plants. The layers visually represent the gap between the original plant and the artificially selected new concept, akin to a 404 error.

The poster, created in A0 size (1189mm x 841mm), incorporates web interactive design elements, offering an engaging and informative experience for viewers. The layers of the design change based on environmental pollution levels, industrialization scale, and the current plant species population, providing a visual representation of the progress of food desertification. When all layers are full, they turn red, indicating the severity of the situation.

This thought-provoking design aims to raise awareness about the increasing distance between humans and plants, as well as the diminishing understanding of raw food materials due to processed and fast food. By quantifying and graphically representing the correlation between disappearing plant prototypes and the rise of artificial plant concepts, Juwon Kim's work prompts reflection on the impact of industrialization and artificial selection on our food sources.
