Parallel Studio's Mariam's Library, a part of the Parallel Gives Program, is a testament to the power of architecture, art, and design to foster positive change. The library, located in Tanzania- Zanzibar, was designed to provide enhanced educational opportunities to the Beit Ras School students and the Mwanyanya community, reflecting a commitment to social responsibility and global welfare.
The 81-square meter library features a slanted roof designed for rain runoff and customized perforations in the bricks to optimize interior ventilation. The space includes a dedicated reading and study area, as well as an open space for communal activities, fostering collaboration and social interaction.
Constructed using traditional building methods and modern approaches, the project prioritized sustainability and authenticity, honoring the environment and local craftsmanship. The library seamlessly integrates into the educational framework, bridging gaps and paving the way for a brighter future, reflecting the designer's dedication to extending support and contributing to societal betterment.
