FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Matthew Rankin's "Preludes" is a one-minute mixed media animation project based on T.S. Eliot's poem of the same name, brought to life through a collaboration between musicians and animators. The project was organized by Campfire Poetry, aiming to promote collaborations between musicians and animators. The animation combines 2D and 3D elements, all composited in After Effects, and features a one-minute musical soundscape composed by Angus Macrae.
The animation process involved the poem being chosen by the producer, who then invited a musician to compose a one-minute piece, which was then handed off to Rankin to create visuals based on both the words of Eliot and the music. The project was started in December 2019 in New York City and completed in February 2020.
Rankin's "Preludes" is a unique exploration of T.S. Eliot's non-narrative and slightly abstract form, using both 2D and 3D animation techniques to visualize the themes and ideas presented in the poem. The animation serves as a peek into modern living, combining modern issues with those from T.S. Eliot's 1911 poem of the same name, and was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2020.
