Ouch: Portable First Aid Kit

Xiaofei Liu's "Ouch" is a portable first aid kit designed for everyday use, aiming to make first aid more accessible to ordinary people in emergency situations. The project, which won the Silver A' Design Award in 2020, reimagines the traditional first-aid package design to be more user-friendly and environmentally friendly.

The "Ouch" first aid kit is made from 60lb weight recycled paper and features a compact design, measuring 14cm in width, 12cm in height, and 2.3cm in depth. The design process involved using Adobe Illustrator for the initial design, followed by laser cutting for the box and vinyl sticker printing for the color surface and numbers on the top.

The kit is designed to be easy to open, lightweight, and environmentally friendly, featuring a step-by-step guide for disinfection, treatment, and bandaging. The innovative hexagonal box design allows for faster access to medical items, saving valuable time in emergency situations.

The project started in October 2019 in Toronto and was completed in November 2019, taking five weeks to finish. The design process involved extensive research on existing first aid kits in the market, as well as multiple design iterations to achieve the final hexagonal box style.

One of the main challenges faced during the creative process was the selection of the right medical items for the kit. The team conducted thorough research on wound treatment and carefully curated essential first aid items, organizing them into three compartments for easy, step-by-step use.

Xiaofei Liu's "Ouch" is a testament to innovative design thinking, addressing the need for user-friendly and portable first aid solutions for everyday emergencies. The project's recognition with the Silver A' Design Award highlights its outstanding expertise, innovation, and commitment to excellence in design.
