Renowned conceptual artist and designer Ãlvaro Wolmer presents Cadeira, a remarkable chair crafted from 34 different wooden species. Inspired by his extensive collection of fine Brazilian and international woods, Wolmer sought to create a piece that not only provides comfort but also serves as an educational tool. Each part of the chair is engraved with the common and scientific names of the respective wood, allowing individuals to engage with and learn about the diverse range of materials used.
What sets Cadeira apart is its dual role as both a functional piece of furniture and a comprehensive collection of wood samples. The chair serves as a platform for individuals to explore and appreciate the beauty and variety of wooden materials, fostering discussions about personal memories associated with specific woods and enhancing awareness of this natural resource.
Constructed in Wolmer's woodworking shop, Alvaro Wolmer Movelaria Fina Ltda, the chair is meticulously crafted by master woodworkers Daniel Alberto Lavaroni and José de Deus Rocha, who have been integral to the shop for decades. Utilizing basic woodworking machinery and a CNC router for engraving, each chair requires approximately 140 hours of dedicated work to complete.
