NCDA's Nelson Chow Introduces Artifact, a Mysterious and Alluring Speakeasy Bar Hidden in BaseHall, Central Hong Kong
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NC Design + Architecture Ltd. (NCDA) proudly presents Artifact, a speakeasy bar concealed behind a secret passage within BaseHall, Hong Kong's newest luxury food hall. Inspired by surreal geometry and the tranquil ambience of underground cisterns, Artifact offers an unforgettable and out-of-this-world experience, transporting guests to a different realm.
Guests are greeted by circular windows resembling industrial pipes, leading them into a dimly lit space with concrete-textured walls, creating the illusion of an abandoned industrial wasteland. Pendant lights shaped like surveillance cameras add intrigue and mystery. The main bar features rib-like structures reminiscent of cisterns, with ambient lighting emphasizing bold arches, creating a serene ambiance. The mirrored ceiling reflects the ribs, making the space feel larger and more enchanting.
Acoustic Chamber. Walls covered in speaker-like tiles block out noise from the bustling food hall, creating a disorienting effect and adding to the surreal atmosphere.
Artifact opened in April 2023 and is located in the prominent Jardine House, Hong Kong's first true skyscraper. The design team, led by Nelson Chow, Rain Ho, Rafael Pardo, and Brandon Fong, drew inspiration from underground cisterns and the works of surrealists Ernesto Neto and James Turrell to craft an immersive environment that skillfully manipulates perception, resulting in an enveloping experience.
NCDA specializes in architectural design, covering residential, commercial, and hospitality projects. The studio's hands-on research-based approach brings an expressive consideration of details, integrating every element of the design process to elevate the ordinary in extraordinary new, refreshing ways.
