Embracing the Legend of LiangZhu, Morph Transforms Tradition into a Contemporary Landmark

Mars Design Consultants introduces Morph, a captivating rooftop bar situated at Kempinski Hotel Hangzhou, drawing inspiration from the ancient Chinese legend of LiangZhu. The design intricately weaves the tale of love into every aspect, with the gynandromorph butterfly serving as the central motif, symbolizing the union of male and female elements. The bar aims to become an iconic representation of the hotel, immersing visitors in the emotional expression of local culture through its vibrant colors, patterns, and motion graphics.

The logo, featuring a butterfly with dual forces, embodies the eternal flight through the universe. The dark purple backdrop represents the starry night, while the wings mirror the iridescence of a rainbow. The kaleidoscopic butterfly pattern extends across various elements, including the menu, dynamic projections, and artwork. With a focus on delivering an extraordinary dining experience, Morph encompasses a holistic approach, incorporating sensory elements such as sound, scent, visuals, and lighting to create an unparalleled ambiance.

The project, which commenced in 2019, is a testament to Mars Design Consultants' commitment to seamlessly blending tradition with modernity, resulting in a unique and immersive space that pays homage to Chinese culture. The design team's extensive research involved exploring a myriad of Chinese restaurants and bars, delving into the nuances of dining rituals and generational dining styles. Overcoming challenges that ranged from comprehending local history to understanding the intricate details of the blue morpho butterfly, the team's dedication culminated in the creation of Morph, a Bronze A' Design Award-winning project that artfully intertwines art, science, and technology.
