JieLong Wu's innovative Flower Tea Packaging Box aims to turn waste into treasure and protect the ecology by utilizing fully degradable materials and flower seeds.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JieLong Wu's Flower Tea Packaging Box is a revolutionary design that aims to address the issue of tea residue disposal. The packaging is made of completely biodegradable materials and is equipped with flower seeds, allowing users to plant the packaging after use, turning waste into treasure and reducing environmental impact. The project, which started in December 2020 and ended in February 2021 in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, China, was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021 for its practical and innovative approach.
The main raw material for the packaging is starch derived from renewable plant resources, making it fully degradable. The environmentally-friendly paper used for packaging is bonded with fully degradable glue, and other additives are natural resins, ensuring the entire packaging is non-toxic and environmentally friendly. The Flower Tea Packaging Box comes with small tea bag packaging specifications of height 75mm, width 80mm, length 85mm, and tea bag specifications of height 55mm, width 58mm, length 70mm.
After drinking the tea, users can put the brewed tea bag back into the packaging box and then bury it in the soil. The degradable packaging and tea bag provide nourishment for the flower seeds, aiding in their growth. The design not only encourages environmental awareness but also provides an interactive and enjoyable experience for users, allowing them to witness the flowers grow from the disposed packaging.
JieLong Wu's design is the result of extensive sustainable design research, focusing on how tea drinkers deal with tea residues and the materials and techniques for making tea packaging. The project involved field survey data analysis and online data collection, revealing that most people discard tea residue due to inconvenience. The Flower Tea Packaging Box aims to change this behavior by providing a convenient and eco-friendly solution.
The project faced challenges in verifying the feasibility of the material technology, production difficulty, and real-life acceptance. However, the innovative approach and positive impact on the environment led to the recognition of the Iron A' Design Award in 2021, highlighting the practical and industry-leading characteristics of the design.
