Alzcare: An Innovative Mobile Application Supporting Alzheimer's Caregivers with Technology and Empathy

Alzcare is a groundbreaking mobile application created by Yueling Lai and Sicong Zhou to address the pressing needs of Alzheimer's caregivers worldwide. Launched after extensive user research and design development in California from December 2024 to March 2025, Alzcare integrates advanced AI features, real-time safety alerts, and a vibrant caregiver community into a single, user-friendly platform. The app's mission is to alleviate the daily burdens faced by over 100 million families affected by Alzheimer's, providing both practical tools and emotional support.

Key features of Alzcare include a centralized Home + Care tab for medication tracking, symptom logging, and report generation, enabling caregivers to make informed medical decisions. The app's real-time GPS-based alerts help prevent wandering, a top concern for families, by notifying caregivers if a patient exits a safe area and offering emergency guidance. The Ask AI feature delivers expert-verified, personalized responses to caregiving challenges, while the Community tab connects users with peer support, curated resources, and therapy sessions. Family coordination tools further streamline task sharing and communication among multiple caregivers.

The design of Alzcare prioritizes accessibility and emotional well-being, featuring a soothing color palette, high-contrast typography, and voice input for hands-free operation. Developed using Figma, Origami Studio, and Adobe After Effects, the app is optimized for iOS with plans for future Android expansion. By combining technology with empathy, Alzcare not only simplifies daily caregiving tasks but also fosters a sense of connection and resilience among families. The app's innovative approach and positive impact on quality of life were recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in 2025, highlighting its contribution to healthcare and user experience design.
