Carlsbad: The Future of Mobile Policing Technology

Travis Baldwin introduces Carlsbad, a groundbreaking mobile tablet PC designed specifically for law enforcement use. The innovative Carlsbad tablet PC is a fusion of 5 to 7 tablet PCs, meticulously crafted to cater to the unique needs of the police force. With a sleek, streamlined shape and integrated rubber bumper feature, Carlsbad ensures a comfortable and non-obtrusive user experience, setting a new standard for high-end technological devices.

Carlsbad stands out as one of the first Tetra radio-equipped tablet PCs, designed to enable seamless access to the Tetra police radio network in the UK and Europe. Its organic, rugged, and durable design incorporates all the essential components required for Tetra radio access, making it a game-changer in the realm of mobile policing technology.

The device integrates several internal components inside plastic covers, including a tablet PC, antenna, radio, and IO ports. The Tetra modem components were specifically created for this device, ensuring a streamlined path to market. Carlsbad's dimensions measure 185mm x 310mm x 60mm, with the screen spanning 10.1 inches. Running on Windows 7, the tablet PC is equipped with a Tetra modem and antenna based on the Cassidian TETRA LTE radio system.

Travis Baldwin, along with engineer Jonah Gubbay and project manager Robert Lovelace, led the design team behind Carlsbad. The project commenced in December 2010 in Bristol and Swindon, UK, and was completed in April 2011, entering limited production in June 2011. The design process involved extensive research and iterative prototyping to ensure the device's durability and ergonomic functionality.

Carlsbad was meticulously designed for on-foot use during police patrols, allowing officers to access rich mobile data beyond traditional text or audio transmissions. Its seamless integration with the government network ensures reliable performance, even in emergency situations, making it an indispensable tool for law enforcement.

Travis Baldwin, a seasoned industrial designer with over 20 years of experience, has been recognized for his exceptional work, including the Bronze A' Design Award in 2020 for the Carlsbad TabletPC. His dedication to innovation and quality production has positioned him as a leading figure in the industrial design landscape.
