Timeless Grove: Blending Digital Technology, Heritage, and Sustainability in Urban Park Design

Timeless Grove, designed by Yuzhou(Joe) Wu and his team at Ambiwishes Technology, has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award 2025 in the Interface, Interaction, and User Experience category. The project transforms the former Nanjing Watch Factory site into a 150-acre interactive park, merging digital innovation with ecological restoration. By leveraging smart navigation, gamified carbon tracking, and augmented reality heritage exploration, Timeless Grove offers visitors an immersive journey through history, nature, and sustainable living.

Visitors begin their personalized park experience by scanning a QR code at the entrance, unlocking a mobile app optimized for both smartphones and tablets. The app guides users along eco-friendly trails using augmented reality overlays that visualize the site's industrial past and ongoing transformation. Through interactive challenges-such as walking, waste sorting, and plant recognition-participants earn carbon points, which can be redeemed for rewards or discounts at local merchants, directly incentivizing environmentally conscious behaviors and community participation.

The project's design is rooted in extensive research on user engagement, environmental impact, and heritage preservation. By integrating digital storytelling and real-time feedback, Timeless Grove not only educates visitors about the site's history but also visualizes individual and collective contributions to sustainability. The modular, accessible interface ensures inclusivity, while the gamified system fosters long-term engagement and supports the park's ecological goals. This innovative approach positions Timeless Grove as a scalable model for interactive, sustainable urban spaces worldwide.
