Omar Khayyam Poster Series: Bridging Classical Persian Wisdom and Contemporary Urban Life Through Design

Vahid Mirzaei's "Omar Khayyam" poster project, recently recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award for 2025, celebrates the enduring relevance of Khayyam's poetry in today's world. Launched in Tehran between February and June 2023, the project transformed metro stations, buses, and city streets into open galleries, inviting the public to engage with the philosophical reflections of the renowned Persian poet.

Inspired by Khayyam's explorations of fate, existence, and the fleeting nature of time, Mirzaei sought to bridge the gap between classical literature and modern urban life. Each poster features custom Persian calligraphy paired with English translations, thoughtfully positioned to ensure accessibility and foster a cultural dialogue. The design's minimal yet expressive aesthetic captures the elegance of traditional Persian script while maintaining clarity for contemporary audiences navigating busy city environments.

The realization of the project involved advanced digital typography techniques, merging handcrafted calligraphic forms with modern graphic design principles. Mirzaei overcame significant creative and technical challenges, including harmonizing bilingual content and ensuring legibility in diverse public settings.
