Runqi Zou's "Sound of Body" Wins Iron A' Design Award for Innovative Vocal Visualization Device

CHINA -- /COMMUNICATION/newswire -- Nov 14, 2024

Shenzhen-based designer Runqi Zou has been honored with the Iron A' Fine Arts and Art Installation Design Award 2025 for "Sound of Body," an interactive installation that transforms real-time biological rhythms into immersive audio-visual experiences, redefining the connection between human physiology and music.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

"Sound of Body" Installation Fuses Human Biology with Art and Technology for a Unique Sensory Experience

"Sound of Body" is a groundbreaking interactive art installation created by Runqi Zou, which allows participants to experience their own heartbeats, breathing, and other bodily sounds as part of a live musical and visual performance. By integrating advanced sensor technology and creative programming, the installation captures real-time physiological data and translates it into dynamic soundscapes and visual patterns, making the invisible rhythms of the human body both audible and visible. This innovative approach not only reimagines the boundaries of sound art but also invites users to develop a deeper, more personal connection with their own biology.

The inspiration for "Sound of Body" arose from the designer's fascination with the emotional power of music and its therapeutic effects. Zou sought to harmonize external music with internal bodily rhythms, transforming overlooked sounds like heartbeats and breathing into a captivating symphony. The project leverages sensors and Python-based algorithms to map heart rate and breathing to musical elements such as pitch and tempo, while custom visualizations display pulsating spheres and rotating patterns in real time. The result is a user-friendly, immersive installation that blends technology, art, and human physiology seamlessly.

Developed in Shenzhen, China, "Sound of Body" underwent extensive research and iterative testing to ensure both technical precision and emotional resonance. The project overcame challenges related to sensor accuracy, latency, and the integration of fluid, responsive visuals. User testing demonstrated that real-time sonification of biological data enhanced self-awareness, relaxation, and emotional engagement, with promising applications in art, therapy, and meditation. The Iron A' Design Award recognizes "Sound of Body" for its innovative integration of industry best practices, technical excellence, and its contribution to a more fulfilling and connected world.
