Deer Chaser Yuchi, a groundbreaking resort project by architect Chi Wei Shih, has been awarded the prestigious Platinum A' Design Award for 2025, recognizing its unique blend of local heritage, nature-inspired architecture, and community-focused hospitality in Nantou, Taiwan.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Deer Chaser Yuchi, designed by acclaimed architect Chi Wei Shih, has received the Platinum A' Hospitality, Recreation, Travel and Tourism Design Award for 2025. Located in Nantou, Taiwan, this 1,720-square-meter resort reimagines the glamping experience by integrating traditional Taiwanese communal spaces and the natural beauty of its riverside setting. The project was finalized in February 2023 and stands out for its commitment to fostering harmony between people, nature, and local culture.
Inspired by the inner courts of traditional farmhouses and the imagery of gathering beneath a tree, Deer Chaser Yuchi's design prioritizes communal interaction and connection with the environment. The resort features open, independent private common areas, interconnected courtyards, and large floor-to-ceiling windows that immerse guests in the surrounding landscape. The use of outdoor bathing spaces and a bald cypress boulevard further enhances the wild luxury concept, setting the property apart from conventional hostels and resorts in Taiwan.
Chi Wei Shih's approach challenges standard hospitality models by emphasizing the philosophy of "the more local, the more international." The resort's structural engineering incorporates concrete load-bearing wall panels, transparent partitions, and a steel-framed tree house, overcoming significant technical challenges to create a cohesive and inviting space. By weaving indigenous traditions, artisanal craftsmanship, and regional cuisine into every aspect of the guest experience, Deer Chaser Yuchi not only celebrates Taiwanese heritage but also appeals to an international clientele seeking authentic, meaningful travel experiences.
