Ziwei Liu's VeriSure, a digital HIV testing assistant designed to reduce stigma and support users through self-testing, has been awarded Silver in the 2025 A' Mobile Technologies, Applications and Software Design Award, recognizing its outstanding innovation, emotional support features, and commitment to privacy and accessibility.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
VeriSure, created by designer Ziwei Liu in San Francisco, is a groundbreaking digital HIV testing assistant that reimagines the self-testing experience. Developed in response to the emotional and psychological hurdles many face when testing for HIV, VeriSure offers a guided, supportive, and stress-free process. The app provides step-by-step animated instructions, a calming pre-test feature, clear result interpretation, and direct access to follow-up care, all while prioritizing user privacy and accessibility.
Unlike traditional self-testing kits, VeriSure leverages oral fluid testing technology, making the process less invasive and more accessible. Users can download the app to receive comprehensive guidance before, during, and after testing. The platform includes a built-in map to locate nearby clinics, customizable reminders to encourage regular testing, and educational resources to help users understand HIV and reduce anxiety. Through responsive design, VeriSure ensures a seamless experience across iOS devices and adapts to various screen sizes for maximum usability.
The project was realized through extensive research, including user interviews, expert consultations, and iterative prototyping. The design process utilized tools such as Miro, UserTesting, FigJam, Figma, Rhino, and KeyShot, while the app's secure infrastructure is built on Flutter. By addressing stigma, emotional distress, and privacy concerns, VeriSure empowers users to take control of their health in a supportive environment. Its recognition with the Silver A' Design Award highlights its technical excellence, artistic skill, and positive impact on digital health innovation.
