Seoul-based designer Jiwon Jung has been honored with the Iron A' Packaging Design Award 2025 for Pass Train, a wish gift package inspired by Korea's tradition of gifting chapssaltteok, reimagined as a train journey to encourage students toward their goals.

Jiwon Jung's Pass Train packaging has been recognized with the Iron A' Packaging Design Award 2025, celebrating its innovative blend of cultural tradition and motivational storytelling. Drawing inspiration from the Korean custom of gifting chapssaltteok-a glutinous rice cake symbolizing good luck and the hope of "sticking" to one's aspirations-Pass Train transforms this heartfelt gesture into a symbolic journey. The design uses the structure of a train to represent the steady progress students make toward their dreams, turning a simple good-luck gift into an immersive experience of encouragement and achievement.
The Pass Train collection features several unique packages, each embodying a stage of the journey: the Signature Locomotive Package with its elevated chimney signifies momentum and progress; the Passenger Train and Cube Packages extend the narrative and offer practical serving options; the Terminal Package in bold black marks the final destination; and the Two-Story Signature Package provides a premium gifting experience. Crafted from eco-friendly paper using precise die-cutting and reinforced with double-layered paperboard, the packages are both sustainable and durable. Matte and gloss finishes highlight the four color variations, while the bold black of the Terminal Package underscores the achievement of one's goal.
Developed in Seoul between March and October 2024, Pass Train is the result of extensive research into cultural gifting practices, packaging trends, and emotional engagement. Surveys with students and gift buyers informed the interactive, storytelling approach, ensuring the package resonates on both a personal and cultural level. Overcoming challenges in structural design and production, Jiwon Jung successfully integrated symbolic meaning, functionality, and premium aesthetics. The result is a packaging design that not only delivers a traditional good-luck treat but also inspires perseverance and celebrates the journey toward success.
