FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The "Daydreamer" rug, known as "Hayalperest" in Turkish, is a striking new creation by designer Begum Karadag and her team at Buruz, recently awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Textile, Fabric, Textures, Patterns and Cloth Design category for 2025. Inspired by the interplay of daydreams and the warmth of home, the rug features celestial motifs-sun, moon, and stars-woven into geometric patterns that evoke both nostalgia and modernity. Each element of the design tells a visual story, inviting viewers to reflect on cherished memories and the beauty of everyday transitions.
What sets "Daydreamer" apart is its intricate production process, which combines four distinct hand weaving techniques: Anatolian Knot, Cicim, Twill, and Shuttle Traditional Towel Weaving. Central to the rug's identity is the Karacakilavuz Weaving Technique, a geographically indicated method unique to Tekirdag, Turkey. The rug is meticulously crafted by three skilled craftswomen at Buruz's workshop, where each piece is woven separately, hand-embroidered, and assembled with a knitted wool chain. Sustainable, plant-dyed wool and traditional oak looms are used throughout, ensuring that every rug is both environmentally conscious and one-of-a-kind.
The production of "Daydreamer" is a testament to the power of collaborative craftsmanship and cultural preservation. The project not only revives an endangered weaving art but also empowers local women by providing employment and financial independence. Each rug is custom-made, available in limited editions, and can be tailored to different sizes, making it a unique addition to modern interiors. The award from A' Design recognizes the rug's innovative approach, technical excellence, and its role in sustaining a centuries-old tradition for future generations.
