Girls Find Girls: A Data-Driven Mobile App Supporting Female Representation and Career Growth

Girls Find Girls, designed by Yingxiao Ouyang, addresses a critical gap in career exploration for women by providing a mobile platform that quantifies female presence across industries and fosters a supportive community. Inspired by career reports, personal experiences, and in-depth research, the app empowers females to answer the question, "Is this industry a good fit for me, as a female?" by offering unbiased, real-time data and direct connections to female leaders and organizations.

The app stands out by utilizing Labor Force Statistics to deliver advanced insights into female employment trends, popular roles, career paths, and salary information. Its intuitive interface allows users to explore industry-specific data, compare female representation, and engage with a vibrant community of women professionals. Unlike traditional career reports that often perpetuate gender bias, Girls Find Girls adopts a female-centered design and tone, focusing on progress and empowerment rather than comparison with male benchmarks.

Developed for both Android and Apple devices, Girls Find Girls is fully responsive, ensuring seamless access on a range of mobile phones. The project, which ran from June to October 2024 in Jersey City, was shaped by user interviews that highlighted the challenges women face in career exploration, particularly the lack of visible female representation. By presenting holistic, easily accessible insights and fostering supportive networks, the app aims to inspire young girls and adult women to pursue their passions and navigate their careers with confidence.
