Flora, the latest gin label from renowned designer Ian Wallace, has been honored with the Golden A' Packaging Design Award for 2025, one of the highest accolades in the design industry. Developed in Santiago, Chile, between 2023 and 2024, Flora's concept draws from the country's dramatic geography-spanning the sun-drenched deserts of the north to the windswept beauty of Patagonia in the south. The label's color palette and tactile elements are meticulously crafted to evoke the resilience and splendor of these diverse regions, offering consumers a sensory and visual journey through Chile's landscapes.
The design stands out for its use of textured martele paper, gold foil accents, and a custom die-cut shape that mirrors the organic forms found in nature. Embossed details and a wooden cork further enhance the artisanal feel, while the label's hues are directly inspired by the native maqui and calafate berries, which also lend their colors to the gin itself. This harmony between product and packaging creates an immersive experience, making Flora not just a beverage but a celebration of Chilean identity and craftsmanship.
Wallace's approach was informed by extensive research into the emotional and visual impact of Chile's landscapes, with photography and field studies guiding the integration of color, texture, and form. Overcoming the challenge of uniting the vivid contrasts of northern and southern Chile, the design distills recurring patterns and natural motifs into a cohesive visual narrative. The result is a packaging solution that not only protects and presents the product but also tells a compelling story, setting a new benchmark for innovation in the spirits industry.
