Architect Vicky Chan Unveils Innovative Horse Park Design in Rabat, Morocco
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Architect Vicky Chan has unveiled the Sorec Horse Park, a groundbreaking grandstand design in Rabat, Morocco. Inspired by the movement of horses, the design also integrates solar conditions and local context, creating a unique and functional structure that connects horse, people, and nature.
The twisted form of the grandstand was meticulously crafted to optimize views and solar conditions, utilizing a repetitive trust system to minimize construction costs. The materials were locally sourced to reduce the carbon footprint and seamlessly integrate the building into Rabat's surroundings.
Spanning 63,750 m2, the park is designed to offer a family-friendly environment that celebrates the Arabic culture of horse racing. The site layout allows visitors to enjoy the horse track as a park while witnessing the race in the backdrop, maximizing the central green space.
The interior space is thoughtfully organized to provide exclusive and inclusive experiences for VIPs, the public, and jockeys. The self-shaded canopy and perforated skin design allow for dramatic sunlight penetration while minimizing heat gain. Natural circulation throughout the ground floor takes advantage of ocean breezes, while smart lighting sensors reduce energy consumption.
The project, which began in March 2019, involved extensive research into the local culture and people's relationship with horses. Overcoming the challenge of separating different guest categories and creating circulation that allows for mutual appreciation, the design ensures that the excitement of horse racing is accessible to all visitors.
Vicky Chan, a renowned architect, entrepreneur, and environmentalist, has received numerous awards for his sustainable design work. His belief in design excellence as a means to improve living environments is reflected in the innovative Sorec Horse Park design.
