Andorka Timea's exhibition poster, Optics and Chromatics, wins prestigious A' Design Award for Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design in 2018
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Andorka Timea's exhibition poster, Optics and Chromatics, has been awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2018 for Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design. The poster was created in 2010 in Budapest, Hungary, and has since been exhibited at various international venues, including Design Terminal in Budapest, Hungary, Donau Buro in Ulm, Germany, and The World Paper Products in Jeonju, South Korea.
The poster draws inspiration from Goethe's Theory of Colours, marking the bicentennial anniversary of the book. It delves into the debate between Goethe and Newton on the nature of colors, represented by the clash of two letterform compositions: one calculated and geometric, the other relying on the impressionistic play of colorful shadows.
Featuring experimental typography, the poster's unique properties lie in the creative representation of the color theory polemic, with two new font designs invented to express the nature of the debate. The symmetrical, geometric shapes of the white paper and the sharp shadows in hard light make the word 'optics' legible, while the word 'chromatics' is built from colored foil sheets creating colorful, intertangled beams in different angles of light.
The poster's afterlife includes being featured as the cover for Pantone Plus Series Artist Covers in 2014, showcasing its timeliness and relevance in the world of design. The design's technical specifications include an original poster size of 70Ã100 cm, realized using paper, colored plastic sheet, light, and shadow.
Andorka Timea's work as a professional graphic designer in Hungary has been recognized for its strong inclination towards traditional crafts combined with contemporary techniques. With a background in exhibition design and a deep interest in the history and theory of typography, Timea's designs continue to make a mark in the world of visual communication and graphic arts.
