Andorka Timea's "The Galimberti" exhibition catalogue, created for the Hungarian National Gallery's 2024-2025 retrospective on painters Valéria Dénes and Sándor Galimberti, has received the Iron A' Design Award for its unique graphic approach, thoughtful typographic ligatures, and dual-language presentation that honors the intertwined legacy of the artist couple.

Budapest, Hungary - The Hungarian National Gallery's landmark exhibition, "The Galimberti. The Lives and Works of Sándor Galimberti (1883-1915) and Valéria Dénes (1877-1915)," running from October 10, 2024, to February 23, 2025, is accompanied by a groundbreaking exhibition catalogue designed by Timea Andorka. The catalogue, which has been honored with the Iron A' Design Award in Print and Published Media Design for 2025, stands out for its sensitive and innovative approach to editorial design, reflecting the deep personal and artistic connection between the two featured painters.
Inspired by Jolán Simon's evocative description of the couple as "two tall, slender trees, growing up straight side by side," Andorka's design uses custom ligatures in the typography to visually express the inseparable bond that defined Dénes and Galimberti's shared oeuvre. The catalogue's linen-bound hardcover, stamped with gold foil and protected by a dust jacket that unfolds into a poster, pays homage to the painters' preferred canvas and allows visitors to take home reproductions of key works in near-original proportions. Each edition-Hungarian and English-features a unique cover artwork by one of the artists, further emphasizing their individual yet interconnected legacies.
Produced in collaboration with curator Gergely Barki, whose research underpins the exhibition, the 372-page volume presents a comprehensive and dignified record of the couple's largely lost body of work. The design process overcame significant challenges, including the creation of a bespoke set of typographic ligatures to represent the unity of the artists, as no existing typeface met the project's needs. The result is a catalogue that not only documents the exhibition but also stands as a testament to the enduring power of artistic partnership and the importance of thoughtful design in cultural preservation.
The Iron A' Design Award recognizes the catalogue's excellence in integrating traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, meeting professional standards while offering visitors an engaging and meaningful experience. "The Galimberti" catalogue sets a new benchmark for exhibition publishing, honoring the memory and artistry of Valéria Dénes and Sándor Galimberti for audiences in Hungary and beyond.
