Corner Pocket: A Revolutionary Magnetic Chalk Holder for Billiards Players, Inspired by Watch Design and Pool Table Form

Corner Pocket, designed by Tamás Fekete, introduces a new era of billiards accessories by addressing the long-standing inconvenience of traditional chalk holders. Unlike conventional solutions that clip to the waist or pocket and are often misplaced or disrupt play, Corner Pocket relocates the chalk to the player's wrist, inspired by the wearability of wristwatches and the iconic form of a pool table's corner pocket. This innovation ensures chalk is always visible, accessible, and secure, enhancing the rhythm and focus of gameplay.

The device features a wrist-mounted housing compatible with any standard 20 mm watch strap and a detachable chalk holder secured by two powerful neodymium magnets. The chalk is held in place by friction and can be replaced easily by pushing it out from the bottom with a cue stick. The modular design accommodates various chalk shapes and brands, and offers extensive customization in materials, colors, and finishes. The magnetic attachment system ensures the chalk holder remains stable during play but can be effortlessly removed and replaced with a simple sliding motion.

Developed in Rotterdam between March 2023 and January 2024, Corner Pocket was realized using advanced 3D printing techniques for cost-effective, scalable production and a wide range of aesthetic options. User-centered research and prototyping confirmed that wrist placement is non-disruptive and increases chalking frequency, improving shot accuracy and player satisfaction. The product's patented assembly, which locks magnets securely without screws or glue, and its customizable, ergonomic design have set a new standard for cue sports accessories. The Iron A' Design Award recognizes Corner Pocket's blend of practicality, innovation, and user-focused design, marking it as a significant advancement in sporting goods.
