Innovative Visual Identity and Spatial Transformation for Shenzhen Technology University's SDI Teaching Building

The SDI Teaching Building at Shenzhen Technology University has undergone a dramatic transformation under the direction of Meng Shenhui, CEO and Art Director of Shenzhen CM Design. Addressing the challenge of an empty, rigid, and lifeless environment, the project introduced a bold visual identity through the use of large-scale wall graphics, creative text layouts, and a thoughtful selection of fonts. The design draws inspiration from the German teaching model of the university's School of Creative Design, utilizing the iconic DIN font for wayfinding and Futura for other spatial elements, reinforcing both functionality and aesthetic appeal.

Completed between April and August 2023, the project reimagined the six-floor building's interior, which features a striking five-meter-high first floor and a distinctive spiral staircase. By employing fine wall painting techniques, color overlapping, and the integration of acrylic materials for select text elements, the design brings warmth, vibrancy, and a sense of approachability to the previously industrial and gray-toned space. The creative use of text stacking, digital projection, and color layering not only enhances the building's visual impact but also creates a dynamic and immersive atmosphere that supports the university's international and innovative educational philosophy.

This revitalized environment now serves as a "beautiful dress" for the building, offering students a daily experience of design excellence and creativity. The clear floor identification and strong visual cues foster a sense of belonging and inspiration, aligning the physical space with the forward-thinking spirit of Shenzhen Technology University. The project's success has been recognized with the Silver A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award in 2025, underscoring its outstanding expertise, innovation, and positive impact on the academic community.
