Kikumi Yoshida's Vegetable Box, developed in collaboration with local farmers in Niihama, Ehime, has been recognized with the Bronze A' Packaging Design Award 2025 for its unique approach to elevating everyday vegetables into cherished gifts. Inspired by the passion of farm owners and the overlooked beauty of root vegetables, the design reimagines carrots and similar produce as "art born from the soil," engaging recipients through vibrant visuals, tactile experiences, and evocative aromas.
The Vegetable Box features a motif reminiscent of the sun, derived from the cross-section of a carrot, symbolizing the connection between giver and receiver. The packaging uses carefully selected paper to highlight the natural colors of the vegetables, while transparent foil stamping adds a luminous, celebratory touch. Inside, a deep gray interior and thoughtful brand messaging reinforce the concept, and carrot leaves are ingeniously repurposed as cushioning, allowing recipients to experience the unique texture of the produce.
A key innovation is the use of special labels that do not damage the box, enabling the packaging to be reused long after the initial gifting. This sustainable approach not only enhances the perceived value of the vegetables but also encourages mindful consumption and appreciation of local agriculture. The Vegetable Box has already garnered multiple accolades, including the Grand Prix at the Creators Club Ehime Awards and the Prefectural Citizens' Judging Award, underscoring its impact on both design and community engagement.
