Developed in North Vancouver between August and September 2024, the project was commissioned to produce compelling, eye-catching visuals for product packaging in a highly competitive market. Caputo's approach combines artistic vision with technical precision, resulting in 3D cake images that are virtually indistinguishable from real desserts and serve as powerful marketing tools.

The project's uniqueness lies in Caputo's ability to capture the intricate textures and delicate surfaces of cakes-one of the most challenging subjects in 3D modeling. Using Blender for organic modeling and Cinema 4D with Redshift for rendering, he crafted every texture from scratch through procedural techniques. This meticulous process, paired with final adjustments in Photoshop, ensures each cake image boasts authentic color, contrast, and detail. Unlike traditional photography, which is limited by real-world constraints such as melting icing, Caputo's 3D cakes maintain flawless presentation, offering brands unmatched flexibility and control over their product imagery.

Caputo's research-driven process involved analyzing real cakes with a magnifying glass and translating their features into digital form using mathematical calculations for procedural textures. Overcoming challenges such as replicating torn cake batter and crumbs, he spent countless hours perfecting displacement parameters and camera angles to achieve mouthwatering realism. The result is a series of captivating images that not only enhance packaging design but also influence consumer perception and buying decisions.
