The 2021 Hua Chenyu Mars Concert, held on December 5 in Haikou, China, marked a new era for live performances with its visionary stage design by Peng Guo and his team. Moving beyond traditional indoor venues, the concert unfolded on lush green lawns, merging the vibrancy of nature with the power of music. The design was meticulously crafted to offer a harmonious experience for both daytime and nighttime audiences, emphasizing a seamless integration of natural beauty, advanced lighting, and immersive sound.
At the heart of the design was the "Martian Treehouse" main stage, a towering structure that stood 25 meters tall, 74 meters wide, and 33 meters deep. This fantastical centerpiece evoked the mystery of Mars intertwined with the vitality of a treehouse, inviting audiences into a universe of exploration and wonder. Complementing this was the "home stage," a cozy, two-level haven designed for interactive performances that fostered a sense of warmth and belonging. A 60-meter-long extension platform connected the two stages, ingeniously integrating the sound system to deliver pristine audio quality across the expansive outdoor venue.
The design team, including Beijing Yamei Times Culture Media Co Ltd, Ka Ping Kwok, and Bin Li, overcame significant technical challenges to ensure optimal acoustics and visual impact. By collaborating closely with audio engineers, they achieved a perfect balance between delicate sound at the stage front and powerful effects for distant audience members. The stage's adaptive features allowed it to transform from a sunlit festival setting by day to a star-studded spectacle by night, offering a feast for the senses and setting a new standard for outdoor concert experiences. The project's success not only captivated audiences but also conveyed positive social messages, inspiring reflection and emotional resonance through artful design.
