Warsaw-based designer Albert Salamon has received the Golden A' Design Award in Interface, Interaction and User Experience Design for TTMM for Fitbit, a groundbreaking suite of 21 digital clock faces crafted exclusively for Fitbit Versa and Fitbit Ionic smartwatches. Developed in collaboration with programmer Gregoire Sage, the TTMM collection stands out for its unique visual language, drawing inspiration from cinematic classics such as "2001: A Space Odyssey," "Blade Runner," and "Twin Peaks," as well as influential design platforms like Tokyo Flash Japan and the Nooka brand.
Each TTMM clock face offers users a highly customizable experience, allowing them to personalize colors, design presets, and complications with a simple tap on the smartwatch screen. Beyond displaying the time, the clock faces can show a range of real-time data, including date, weekday, heart rate, steps, activity time, distance, calories, floors climbed, local temperature, and battery status. The user-friendly interface enables quick adjustments, making it easy for users to tailor their smartwatch display to their preferences and needs.
The design process utilized Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for visual development, while the technical implementation was achieved using the Fitbit SDK in Fitbit Studio. Salamon's research into the smartwatch market revealed a lack of originality in digital clock faces, which were often limited to imitations of traditional mechanical clocks or outdated LCD screens. TTMM for Fitbit addresses this gap by introducing a fresh, minimalist aesthetic and innovative symbolic language, including custom icons and features such as a torch, stopwatch, and timer. The project, completed between December 2017 and February 2018, reflects a balance between readability, functionality, and forward-thinking design, solidifying TTMM's reputation for advancing the art of digital timekeeping.
